VakıfBank, become world champion for the 4th time

VakıfBank defeated Italian side Imoco Volley Conegliano 3-2 in the 2021 FIVB Women's Club World Championship final. The Yellow-blacks won the tournament for 4th time in their history and improved the record of being the team with the most titles. VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih said: “Our girls continue to make history. Turkish women showed once again that they can do everything best. As always, we dedicate this championship to our nation and country”.

 

VakıfBank Sports Club, the Turkish team that won the most international trophies, achieved another historic success and became the champion in the 2021 FIVB Women's Club World Championship. Defeating Imoco Volley Conegliano 3-2 in the final match, the yellow-blacks became the world's greatest for the 4th time. As the team that won the FIVB Women's Club World Championship the most in the world, VakıfBank broke its own record with fourth title.

 

Winning the first set 25-15 and the third set 25-22, VakıfBank allowed 7 points in the tie-break and won the game 3-2. Isabelle Haak was the team's top scorer with 28 points in yellow-blacks; Chiaka Ogbogu scored 15, Gabi 12 and Zehra Güneş reached double digits with 10 points. Other names who contributed to VakıfBank's victory with their points were Michelle Bartsch-Hackley with 8, Cansu Özbay with 3 points and Buket Gülübay with 1 point.

 

With the performance in the tournament, VakıfBank's Swedish star Isabelle Haak was selected as the most valuable player. Haak also won the best opposite award; Gabi from VakıfBank is the best spiker of the tournament; Zehra Güneş became the best middle blocker. Thus, 3 VakıfBank players took part in the 'Dream Team' of the tournament.

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to this magnificent organization, especially Mehmet Akif Üstündağ, the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation. I would also like to congratulate Fenerbahçe Opet for the bronze medal. I would also like to thank all our supporters, especially the Ankara fans, whose hearts beat with us and pray for us. We stated that we, as VakıfBank Sports Club, aimed for 5 trophies at the opening of the 35th season at the meeting we held before the championship, that we achieved the first of these by winning the Super Cup, and we said that there were 4 trophies left.
