Turkey's most international cup winner team VakıfBank, met with media members at the opening of the new season. VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, club managers, technical team and athletes attended the event at the VakıfBank Spor Sarayı.
Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih said: "We are starting the new season with enthusiasm as if we have won nothing, and confident enough to believe that we can achieve anything."
The last European champion VakıfBank, met with media members at the opening of the new season. While the full squad of the yellow-black team attended the ceremony at VakıfBank Spor Sarayı; VakıfBank Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih conveyed his new season messages. At the press conference, VakıfBank's specially designed jersey for the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, was also unveiled for the new season.
Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih: “We had a great summer season worthy of the 100th anniversary of our Republic”
In his speech at the meeting, VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih celebrated the achievements of our Turkey A Women's National Team and said: "National team made history as the first team in Turkish sports history to become European champions in team sports. Thanks to determined Turkish women, we have left behind a great summer season worthy of the 100th anniversary of our Republic. We were proud of each of our girls, many of whom grew up under our care, were a part of the VakıfBank family for years, and played on the field wearing the national team jersey. As VakıfBank, we will continue to be the team that raises the most athletes for national teams for many years to come"
Emphasizing that VakıfBank started the new season with big goals, Üstünsalih said: “We have achieved things that no other club could dream of in any other sports. We are the team that has won the most international trophies in Turkey, with 12 trophies in total. We are proud of our history and what we have achieved, but we know very well that there is no yesterday in sports. We are entering the new season with enthusiasm as if we have won nothing, and confident enough to believe that we can achieve anything".
Banu Can Schürmann: “I'm in the best team in the world again”
Speaking after Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, VakıfBank General Manager Banu Can Schürmann said: “I am very happy to return to the club I played for as a player after 23 years. During this period, I continued to stay involved in volleyball. Now I'm back in the best team in the world. Our team has great energy and potential. We will set an example for our young girls by achieving great success in the 100th anniversary of our Republic".
Giovanni Guidetti: “Everyone is aware of the importance of this jersey”
VakıfBank Head Coach Giovanni Guidetti said: “We are very excited as always at the beginning of a new season. We have 7 new players. There are new names in our technical staff too. Everyone is aware of the importance of wearing this jersey. We hope it will be a great season”
Gabi: “I can't wait to have another great season and meet our fans”
VakıfBank Captain Gabi said: “We are very excited as always. We are a new team but we carry the same values. There are new challenges ahead of us. I can't wait to have another great season and meet our fans".
Zehra Güneş: “Our first goal is the Super Cup”
Zehra Güneş said: “We are starting the new season with the same goals. Our first goal is the Super Cup. Then, we want to achieve all our goals. I am very happy to start a season with VakıfBank again"
Ayça Aykaç: “We want to have new victories”
VakıfBank libero Ayça Aykaç also spoke at the meeting and said: “I have been wearing this jersey since I was 17 years old. This is a great pride for me. Many new names joined us this season. We want to adapt quickly and win have victories".
VakıfBank Sports Club will play its first official match of the 2023-2024 season with the Super Cup game. The yellow-blacks will face Fenerbahçe Opet for the first cup of the season in the match on October 11. VakıfBank will host Karayolları in its first match in the Sultans League on October 14.
